The Quincy Medical Group (QMG) Foundation is now accepting applications for its third annual Dr. Michael Ouwenga Scholarship. Two awards of $5,000 will be granted to qualifying students.
The scholarship was created to honor the memory of Dr. Michael Ouwenga, who was a urologist and board member at QMG before he passed away unexpectedly in January 2019 at age 43.
QMG Urologist Dr. Daniel Schneider worked alongside Dr. Ouwenga and shared, “Dr. Ouwenga was a wonderful physician and gave everything for the health and betterment of the community. This scholarship is a fitting legacy to such a wonderful person and selfless man.”
Applicants must be a Quincy senior (Quincy Senior High School, Quincy Notre Dame, or a homeschooled student) with a minimum 3.5 GPA, involved in the community and extracurricular activities, and planning to attend a two or four-year school in a healthcare-related field.
QMG Chief Medical Officer Dr. Richard Noble said, “One of the initial recipients of the scholarship award recently returned for the holidays and spent time shadowing with two of Dr. Ouwenga’s physician colleagues. I truly believe that Michael would be extremely proud of the positive impact that this award has already provided to the future generation of healthcare providers.”
