Dr. John Scott

Dr. John Scott and his wife, Candy, arrived in Quincy on July 1, 1983, with their three-and-a-half-year-old. Coming off 10 years of work and education of a combined five degrees and one medical residency, they found their home.

“Quincy is a really fantastic town — an incredibly nice and safe place to raise a family,” said Dr. Scott. “I felt comfortable here.”

Dr. Scott began his career at Quincy Medical Group as an Internal Medicine Physician just a few weeks after arriving in town. For him and his family, the clinic and town were a perfect fit, and he’s spent his entire career here. This December, he retires from QMG, after nearly 39 years.

At the center of his work is his medical philosophy of looking at each patient’s whole health — physical, mental, and spiritual. A mission of his has been to not only to encourage his patients to lead a healthier lifestyle, but to lead the community to as well. QMG has supported him in that mission, and he’s grateful for that.

“For me, one of the biggest changes over the years is how much the clinic has been involved in the community,” Dr. Scott said. “Back then it was thought it wasn’t the doctor’s responsibility to go out to educate the people and screen them, but that has changed.”

Dr. Scott has a heart for serving. Whether it’s planting trees, conducting health seminars, or helping through mission work, he has done it all. He simply tries to live his life by example and through wellness — physical, mental, and spiritual well-being.

One of his major contributions to this community is starting the Bridge the Gap to Health Race, which continues to be a community tradition more than 20 years later.
