As our community continues to navigate the novel coronavirus along with the rest of the world, people are being extra vigilant and cautious about their health. Quincy Medical Group (QMG) is doing the same and taking necessary precautions in coordination with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and our local health departments to keep patients safe.
As a result, all QMG facilities have implemented screening processes at entrances to screen patients and visitors throughout QMG business hours. This individual will screen patients for fever (take temperatures), cough, respiratory symptoms, and/or shortness of breath. If patients have symptoms or have a temperature, we will ask them to return to their cars and call our QMG Hotline (217-277-4001) for additional screening.
Additionally, the pediatric walk-in department is converting to appointment only to ensure that all patients are screened before they arrive at Quincy Medical Group. Pediatrics also recommends that patients call when they arrive for remote check-in, and patients may be asked to wait in the car until exam rooms are available to avoid waiting room exposure.
For many, questions still remain about when or if you should see your doctor if you are experiencing illness or an injury not related to flu-like symptoms with fever and cough. QMG wants to reassure the community that our providers are here to serve and care for you even in this time of high alert.
QMG Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Richard Schlepphorst said that at this time, if patients are not exhibiting flu-like symptoms, they should continue to call their physicians and schedule and attend their appointments.
“We have taken extra measures and precautions to ensure QMG remains a safe and healthy place for our patients. If you or a loved one is experiencing an earache, a joint injury, or some other form of illness and are not exhibiting flu-like symptoms, we encourage you to schedule or keep an appointment to see your provider,” he said. “The health of our patients is always our top priority, and this time is no different.”
