QUINCY, IL – Since 2014, Cancer Crush has raised funds for local patients in their fight against cancer. In that time, the event has raised over $480,000 to help patients with the expenses associated with cancer treatment and other needs including transportation, housing, and much more.
The event was inspired by Ted Tappe who fought an eight-year battle with prostate cancer. Ted’s son, Luke, wanted to help other oncology patients in our community by easing the financial burden of a cancer diagnosis, so no patient had to face the difficult decision of choosing between their treatment and paying their bills. The Cancer Crush committee was formed with community leaders, friends, and many volunteers.
Luke and his family have made the decision to transition the event to the Quincy Medical Group (QMG) Foundation in 2021 to further grow the event and impact local cancer patients. Founder Luke Tappe said, “The QMG Foundation has been a great partner in our mission to help our community cancer patients. We are so happy that the event, inspired by my dad, will continue on and help our local patients get the support they need. Thank you to all committee members, volunteers, and all supporters of the Community Cancer Crush over the last 7 years. I know our community will continue to support such an impactful fundraising event.”
Proceeds from Cancer Crush have helped support the Quincy Medical Group Foundation’s Oncology Patient Fund, providing assistance to any oncology patient in our community who requires financial support for day-to-day expenses.
