Radiation Therapy: A Targeted Approach to Fighting Cancer

Radiation therapy is a powerful cancer treatment that uses high-energy beams to target and destroy cancer cells. These beams disrupt the cancer cells’ ability to grow and divide, ultimately leading to their death. Radiation therapy can be used alone, but it’s often combined with other treatments like surgery or chemotherapy for a more comprehensive attack on cancer.

Radiation Therapies at the QMG Cancer Institute:

  • 3‑Dimensional Radiotherapy
  • Intensity Modulated Radiation (IMRT)
  • Stereotactic Body Radiotherapy (SBRT)
  • Image Guided Radiotherapy (IGRT)

A personalized plan for your journey

Since every cancer case is unique, radiation therapy is tailored to your specific diagnosis and needs. Your radiation oncologist, a doctor specializing in this treatment, will work closely with your entire medical team to create the most effective treatment plan for you. This plan will consider the type and stage of your cancer, your overall health, and your individual goals.
