QMG Hospital - Frequently Asked Questions
Why are you building a new hospital?
We are building a state-of-the-art, small-format hospital to expand access to the latest high-quality, low-cost care for the Tri-State area. This facility is part of our mission to improve regional care, empower patients and their physicians, enhance care coordination and clinical outcomes, expand healthcare choices, and reduce costs. Increased competition through QMG’s own inpatient facility will help lower healthcare costs. The new hospital will allow QMG patients to receive care from their chosen healthcare professionals throughout their entire healthcare journey. Research shows that continuity of care improves outcomes, lowers costs, and increases patient satisfaction.
How will this new hospital lower prices and improve quality?
We are dedicated to providing the highest-quality care at the lowest cost and have a proven track record of achieving this. The only time we struggle to manage costs effectively is when patients require hospital care. This new small-format hospital will enable us to offer the same low-cost, high-quality care across all settings. Competition among healthcare providers fosters more choice, lower costs, better clinical outcomes, and improved patient experiences.
Tell me more about the facility.
The hospital will feature approximately 25 medical-surgical beds, 3 labor, delivery, recovery, and postpartum (LDRP) rooms, an emergency department with 10 bays, a c‑section suite, 3 operating rooms, and 1 procedure room. It will also include a post-anesthesia care unit, laboratory, pharmacy, and imaging department. Three of the medical-surgical beds will be equipped as negative pressure rooms to aid in managing infectious disease outbreaks.
Will the new hospital be a nonprofit?
Yes. QMG Hospital will be a physician-developed and physician-governed nonprofit organization. Any profits from the hospital’s operation will be redirected towards facility development, such as new equipment or other operational needs. The facility will be adjacent to the QMG Cancer Institute and QMG Ambulatory Surgery Center, underscoring our commitment to high-quality care tailored to our patients’ needs.
How will this differ from what we already have in town?
Healthcare is evolving. Smaller, accessible facilities are increasingly necessary. This new hospital will complement our 18 existing practice sites across Illinois, Iowa, and Missouri. While QMG has provided nearly every healthcare service over its 85-year history, we have not previously hosted overnight patients. This new hospital will offer patients more choices, convenience, and personalized care.
When will the project be complete?
A certificate of need (CON) application was approved by the Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board (HFSRB) on Tuesday, April 26, 2022. The project timeline will be announced soon.
