Our History
A Legacy of Caring
In 1937, Quincy Medical Group’s journey began with a vision for collaborative medicine. Dr. Walter M. Whitaker and Dr. Kent W. Barber, both relatively new Quincy physicians, joined Dr. O.F. Shulian, a long-time Quincy physician, to establish The Quincy Clinic at 1416 Maine. This group practice was one of only seven in existence in Illinois at the time, pioneering a new concept in healthcare delivery.
Through the years, QMG has transformed from a single clinic into a network of locations offering a comprehensive range of primary and specialty care services. We’ve consistently embraced innovation, establishing a prompt care department in 1986 and achieving a pioneering milestone in 2021 by becoming the first outpatient center in Illinois to offer cardiac catheterizations.
Our commitment to serving the community extends far beyond Quincy. We have established branches nearby in Illinois, Iowa, and Missouri, ensuring easier access to exceptional healthcare in the surrounding area.
As we look towards the future, QMG remains dedicated to:
- Expanding our services to meet the ever-evolving needs of our patients.
- Investing in cutting-edge facilities and technology to deliver the best possible care.
- Fostering a collaborative environment that empowers our physicians to provide exceptional care to every patient.
QMG’s rich history stands as a testament to our unwavering dedication to patient care and the overall well-being of the communities we serve.
