QMG Welcomes Wayland Mutter, AGACNP-BC

February 21, 2018

Wayland Mutter has spent 18 years of his nursing career in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) caring for some of the most critically ill patients. His choice to further his education and serve the ICU as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner comes from his passion to be there for others.

It all really boils down to helping people in their darkest hour of need. I am very passionate about serving the critically ill patient, and I can’t imagine doing anything else. I truly love what I do. Underneath it all, we are just humans helping humans, and the world needs more of us.”

Time in the ICU can also be an emotional time for family and friends of the patient. Having experienced having a loved one in the ICU, he knows how important communication and compassion are in that setting. This experience has given me a first-hand insight of what it feels like to be the receiver of health care rather than the provider. What did I learn? I have time to listen, and I use it. I talk with the patient and their support team of family and friends. We discuss and develop mutual goals regarding their health and well-being.”

Wayland received his Post Masters-Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Degree from Saint Louis University, and his Master of Science in Nursing Administration and Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the Blessing Rieman College of Nursing & Health Sciences. He and his wife, Heather, have two sons.
