During National Nurse Practitioner Week, we celebrate the dedicated healthcare professionals at QMG, where we are fortunate to have 38 nurse practitioners caring for patients in the region. Among them is Heather Todd, FNP-C, who has been with QMG since 2016.
Todd’s journey into healthcare was fueled by her passion for helping others. Before becoming a nurse practitioner, she spent nine years as a registered nurse in the intensive care unit, where she was inspired to further her education and career.
“This is where I discovered my passion for helping others during their most vulnerable times. This passion is what inspired me to further my education to become a nurse practitioner,” she stated.
In her dual role at QMG in Nephrology and Internal Medicine, Todd provides a unique combination of primary and specialty care, resulting in the delivery of comprehensive care.
She shared, “The most fulfilling aspect of being a nurse practitioner is simply being able to help others in their times of need. To build trust with my patients, it is important for me to take time to get to know them on a personal level. This then allows me to use my knowledge to provide guidance while ensuring patient-driven care.”
Recognizing the significance of her role, Todd doesn’t take it for granted. She conveys gratitude for the opportunity to be part of the lives of others.
“I am thankful for the opportunity to be a nurse practitioner. I plan to continue my journey of providing the highest quality care to the patients in our community and am hopeful to continue to positively impact the lives of others,” she concluded.
