As an Oral Maxillofacial Surgeon, Dr. Erin Sheffield understands a visit to her office may cause uncertainty for some. Dr. Sheffield hopes to change that. “Patients often come to me with anxiety. It’s not uncommon for patients to tell me ‘I hate going to the dentist.’ My goal is not only to help them have a better dental experience in my office today but hopefully help them change their future outlook.”
For Dr. Sheffield, small gestures go a long way in creating that positive experience. “Sometimes even a simple gesture can make a real difference. I’ve found myself inspired by something as simple as a smile or a friendly greeting, so I keep that in mind in my own work. What I do may be routine for me, but for my patients, it’s a big deal. Showing kindness and listening to their concerns hopefully helps ease their nerves.”
Dr. Sheffield comes to Quincy after private practice in Southeast Iowa and serving as an adjunct professor at the University of Iowa. She joins Dr. Daniel Riggs at our 3915 Maine location in Quincy.
Dr. Sheffield received her Bachelor of Science degree from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, and her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Iowa College of Dentistry. She completed her residency in Oral Maxillofacial Surgery at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
