American College of Radiology Grants Full 3-Year Accreditation to QMG Radiation Oncology Program

December 07, 2021

Quincy Medical Group (QMG) Radiation Oncology has been awarded a full three-year term of accreditation by the American College of Radiology (ACR).

Achieving such accreditation from the ACR is no easy task. The review process entails thorough audits by physicians and physicists board certified in Radiation Oncology. The audits include patient care records, staffing, facility design, equipment capabilities, quality assurance procedures, operating policies, and safety procedures,” stated QMG Radiation Oncologist Dr. Michael Fallon.

The findings of the auditors are then presented to the Radiation Oncology Practice Accreditation (ROPA) Committee, which can issue one of three decisions: 1) denial of accreditation; 2) one-year accreditation with review (pending implementation of corrective action plans); 3) full three-year accreditation. We received a full three-year accreditation with no call for submission of any corrective action plans. This is an exceptional accreditation, particularly for a new service line,” said Dr. Fallon.

The American College of Radiology (ACR) is the nation’s oldest and most widely accepted radiation oncology accrediting body, with more than 700 accredited sites and 30+ years’ of accreditation experience. Recognized as the premier national professional organization of radiologists and radiation oncologists, the ACR represents the collective expertise of more than 36,000 diagnostic/interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists, nuclear medicine physicians, and medical physicists. The ACR provides a wide range of professional and educational resources with programs focusing on the practice of medical imaging and radiation oncology and the delivery of comprehensive health care services. The ACR seal of accreditation is emblematic of achieving the highest standards of quality care established by the ACR. It is awarded only to facilities that comply with specific ACR Practice Guidelines and Technical Standards developed by board-certified radiation oncologists and medical physicists who are experts in the field of Radiation Medicine.

Since 1981, Quincy Medical Group has provided cancer care to the Greater Quincy region. In 2020, QMG expanded its healthcare portfolio to include Radiation Oncology. With a staff of Board-certified Radiation Oncologist, Medical Physicist, Medical Dosimetrist, registered nurses and licensed therapists, QMG Radiation Oncology offers 3‑Dimensional Conformal, Intensity Modulated, and Image Guided Radiotherapy along with Stereotactic Body Radiotherapy, and, in conjunction with Neurosurgery, Stereotactic Radiosurgery. The QMG Cancer Institute is located at 3301 Broadway in Quincy.
