World AIDS Day is rec­og­nized each year on Decem­ber 1. The recog­ni­tion offers an oppor­tu­ni­ty for peo­ple world­wide to unite in the fight against HIV, show sup­port for those liv­ing with HIV/AIDS, and to com­mem­o­rate those who have died.

Every year in March, we mark Nation­al Col­orec­tal Can­cer Month to bring aware­ness to the dis­ease and the impor­tance of screen­ing. Bri­an Deeds was diag­nosed with col­orec­tal can­cer in 2021 and shares his sto­ry to encour­age oth­ers to talk to their doctors.

For­mer Quin­cy May­or Chuck Scholz has encoun­tered a series of health chal­lenges over the past two decades, requir­ing the metic­u­lous man­age­ment of numer­ous appoint­ments and pre­scrip­tions. The addi­tion of Quin­cy Med­ical Group (QMG) RN Care Man­ag­er Leslie Koet­ters to his care team marked a trans­for­ma­tive shift in his health­care journey.

High school hall­ways don’t always lead to life­long love, but for Ryan Teheng and Beth Coop­er, Cer­ti­fied Reg­is­tered Nurse Anes­thetists (CRNA), things were meant to be. Ryan and Beth met in high school, but their love sto­ry didn’t begin until col­lege. Eleven years lat­er, in 2015, they got mar­ried, embark­ing on their lives not just as hus­band and wife, but also in the world of healthcare.

Imag­ine two peo­ple, side by side, fac­ing the same health con­cerns. They might both have dia­betes or asth­ma, but their chances of get­ting sick and even sur­viv­ing these ill­ness­es are dif­fer­ent, often based sole­ly on their race or ethnicity.

Dur­ing Nation­al Nurse Prac­ti­tion­er Week, we cel­e­brate the ded­i­cat­ed health­care pro­fes­sion­als at QMG, where we are for­tu­nate to have 38 nurse prac­ti­tion­ers car­ing for patients in the region. Among them is Heather Todd, FNP‑C, who has been with QMG since 2016.

On Vet­er­ans Day, we want to express our deep appre­ci­a­tion for the invalu­able ser­vice pro­vid­ed by our local Vet­er­ans. To mark this occa­sion, we spoke with two of our optometrists at Quin­cy Med­ical Group (QMG) — Dr. Kel­ly Sharpe and Dr. Hei­di Hais­ley — to dis­cuss their care for local Veterans.
