This past sum­mer was a scary time for Kala Bred­er and her fam­i­ly. As she await­ed the arrival of her third child, a baby boy, Kala began expe­ri­enc­ing bleed­ing at 33 weeks preg­nant as a result of pla­cen­ta pre­via. After her baby failed to respond to a non-stress test, the deci­sion was made to deliv­er him via emer­gency C‑section. Her son, Chan­ning, made his arrival at 12:12 a.m. on July 16 and was air­lift­ed to St. Louis Children’s Hospital.

A late-evening, painful injury result­ed in west­ern Illi­nois res­i­dent Ter­ry Thiel seek­ing treat­ment at Quin­cy Med­ical Group, where he was able to get imme­di­ate spe­cial­ized ortho­pe­dic attention.

Every year, around her birth­day in Decem­ber, Mar­i­lyn Star­man sched­ules her mam­mo­gram. Last year, a friend of hers was diag­nosed with breast can­cer and encour­aged her to go ear­ly for her mam­mo­gram. So in Octo­ber 2019, Mar­i­lyn sched­uled her mam­mo­gram and the results indi­cat­ed some­thing sus­pi­cious. After a biop­sy, she was diag­nosed with Stage 3 breast cancer.

Quin­cy res­i­dent and telecom­mu­ni­ca­tions expert Kei­th Dunford’s recent Tele­health, or vir­tu­al, vis­it with his physi­cian was a great expe­ri­ence for him. With close to 60 years in the com­mu­ni­ca­tions and media busi­ness, Dunford’s exper­tise sheds light on the roots of using telecom­mu­ni­ca­tions to deliv­er services.

This time of year is beau­ti­ful with flow­ers bloom­ing and grass turn­ing green, but for those with aller­gies and asth­ma Spring serves as a time to take more pre­cau­tions. Sarah Fred­man is all too famil­iar with this.

On the bench­es of our local high school and col­lege games, among the play­ers, you’ll find an Ath­let­ic Train­er. There to pro­tect and treat our ath­letes, they quick­ly become one of the team.

On April 29, par­tic­i­pants hit the pave­ment for a good cause for the third annu­al Pike Coun­ty Crazy 8 5K Run/​Walk in Pitts­field. As a result of the event, $3,452.13 was raised on behalf of the Quin­cy Med­ical Group Health­care Foun­da­tion to ben­e­fit the Pike­land Snack Packs pro­gram. The sup­ple­men­tary food pro­gram pro­vides bags of snacks and light meals for stu­dents over the week­end when stu­dents don’t have access to school meals.
