First Steps in Medicine: Jonathan's QMG Story

Jonathan F. aspires to become a doctor, but before taking that next step, he wanted to gain firsthand experience in the medical field. His role as a medical assistant at Quincy Medical Group (QMG) provides him with just that.

After graduating from Quincy University in 2023 with a pre-med degree, Jonathan joined QMG as a floating medical assistant in primary care, allowing him to gain a broad understanding of the healthcare field. In May, he transitioned to Dr. Adam Reyburns internal medicine practice, where he plans to remain until starting medical school.

Jonathan’s decision to pursue a career in medicine was driven by his desire to make a difference in people’s lives.

Being able to meet strangers and learn their stories and life advice allows me to impact their lives and enhance their medical care, all while establishing friendships with people I never would have met if not in my current position,” he said.

His aspirations extend beyond becoming a physician; he hopes to return to the Quincy area to serve underserved and rural communities, staying close to his family.

I plan to attend med school and become a physician. I would love to come back to this area to continue providing care for underserved and rural communities while remaining in close proximity to my family,” he shared.

Every day, Jonathan strives to make a positive impression on those he encounters. He sees every interaction as an opportunity to connect.

I love the impact that I am able to make on people’s lives,” he said. I do my best to ensure that those I meet remember me for my humor, kindness, and empathy. My awesome coworkers and providers make me love coming to my job every day.”
